The DOC Urban Lagrein of the Tramin winery is a prestigious and young wine but respectful of the tradition and developed by the Langrein grapes which are historically been present in the Südtirol-Alto Adige area as confirmed by the DOC denomination. Since the beginning of April the germination started thanks to the warm spring in the last decade. The dry weeks stopped in June and it followed the waited rains. In July the temperature were low and August was very hot followed by a wonderful September with fresh nights that helped the maturation. All the Lagrein grapes come from Egna and Ora. Most of the vines are 100 years old. The climate conditions assures an excellent balance between sugars and acidity. The profit is 50 hectoliters per hectare. It starts with the grapes destemming which is manual and then the grapes rest in oak barrels under temperature control. Then it takes the malolactic fermentation and a first aging period in French oak barrels in two steps. After 14 months the wine is bottled and the wine has to age one more year before being commercialized.
Characteristics of the Lagrein "URBAN" DOC wine
It has a violet color very deep and satin. The scent has a bouquet very intense with berries and spices flavors. The taste is bodied and structured on the palate with a remarked tannin taste and a balsamic aftertaste. It can be aged until 10 years.
Suggested pairings with this great red wine
This wine is excellent with game, cheeses, tasty soups or pizzas cooked in the wood stove. It has to be served at 20°C in Bordeaux wine glasses which helps the oxygenation. It is suggested a settling time of 1 hour before serving it.
