Mille1 is one of the most iconic wines from the Pratello winery, produced on the moraine hills of Lake Garda in the Garda DOC Rosso appellation. It is born from a blend of Merlot and Rebo grapes, the latter grape variety obtained from the cross between Teroldego and Merlot, which helps give the wine structure, aromatic intensity and distinctive personality. The name “Mille1” symbolically recalls the 1001 miles that represent the length of Italy, and the idea of a journey through the culture and winemaking diversity of the country. Production begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes, carefully selected directly in the vineyard. The grapes are subjected to vertical destemming and preferential cold maceration for approximately 24 hours at 8–10 °C, a fundamental phase for delicately extracting aromas and colour. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation for approximately 20–22 days with reassemblies on the skins, which promote structure and complexity. After racking, the wine ages in 500-liter tonneaux and 2000-liter barrels for about 18 months, followed by a further bottle aging of about 10 months, which completes its balance and finesse.
Characteristics of this wine from the Pratello Winery
In the calyx it has an intense purple-red colour, almost impenetrable, with reflections that tend towards purple. The bouquet is large and complex: floral notes such as violet and cyclamen emerge, followed by fruity hints of blueberry and blackberry, accompanied by sweet spices such as cinnamon and balsamic, woody hints. On the palate it is rich and enveloping, with a silky texture in which ripe fruit and jams of small red fruits alternate, supported by a solid structure and a pleasant flavour. The wood is present but well integrated, contributing to the complexity without covering the fruit.
Recommended pairings with this red wine from Pratello
Mille1 is a structured and gastronomic wine, ideal with grilled red meats, braised meats, roasts and game. It also pairs well with richer preparations such as fifth quarter, stewed dishes and some creative cooking proposals that play between sweet and savoury. The recommended serving temperature is 16–18 °C, in a large glass, to allow the wine to express all its aromatic complexity and gustatory depth.
