Mamertino DOC PLANETA
This ancient variety have been cultivated since centuries. It was described by Plinio and loved by Giulio Cesare. Nero d’ Avola and Nocera in a blend that ages in barrels of 35hl. The cellar is not far from the sea and it is surrounded by fabulous vineyards planted in Capo Milazzo. The Foundation "Barone Lucifero", that owns the capital, uses part of the money for social and cultural activities dedicated to the children who live in the area of Milazzo. The blend is composed by 60% Nero d’ Avola and 40% Nocera. The grapes are harvested manually and put in boxes of 14 kg. After a careful selection, the soft pressing starts, followed by the elimination of stalks. The fermentation is managed in steel tanks and it is followed by 14 days maceration on skins at 25°C. After the malolactic fermentation starts the aging, that is managed in oak barrels of 35hl.
Features of the Mamertino DOC wine
The aspect shows an intense and shiny ruby red colour with violet shades. Its perfume is an explosion of fruits, Mediterranean hints and marmalade. The taste is characterized by defined tannins that are well integrated with the woody sensations given by the aging.

Perfect with traditional dishes and local starters. It can be drunk young or aged for 3 years. It has to be served at 16°C in a high, wide wine glass. The alcoholic strength is 13,5%Vol.
