Franz Haas' Gewürztraminer is a highly intense aromatic white wine, capable of best expressing the characteristics of the grape variety and the South Tyrolean territory. As for production, the grapes come from vineyards located between 350 and 650 metres above sea level, grown on deep, clayey soils rich in pebbles, with a predominant exposure to the south-west. After the harvest, the grapes undergo a short maceration in contact with the skins, useful for extracting aromas and structure. Fermentation takes place at low temperature in stainless steel tanks, a choice that allows the varietal aromatic component to be preserved. The wine then ages on the lees for about six months, with frequent batonnage, before bottling and a further short rest in the bottle.
Characteristics of this South Tyrolean wine
From an organoleptic point of view, it has an intense golden yellow colour. On the nose it develops a large and complex bouquet, with typical notes of lychee, orange peel, rose and spices such as cloves and nutmeg. In the mouth it is full, structured and enveloping, supported by a good freshness that balances the aromatic richness. The finish is long and persistent, with a slight bitter note that contributes to the overall elegance of the wine.
Recommended pairings with this Franz Haas white wine
As for pairings, this Gewürztraminer lends itself to intense and aromatic dishes, such as liver pâtés, shellfish, and grilled white meats, but it also finds excellent harmony with spicy Asian dishes thanks to its aromatic richness. The ideal service temperature is between 14 and 16 °C, a condition that allows to fully enhance its aromas and taste structure.
