Cascina Bruciata’s Langhe Nebbiolo “Usignolo” DOC is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, produced in the hills of the Langhe region of Piedmont and conceived as a more immediate and fragrant expression of the grape variety compared to more structured wines such as Barbaresco and Barolo. The winery’s aim is to highlight the typical characteristics of Nebbiolo whilst maintaining a younger, more accessible profile geared towards drinking pleasure, whilst preserving the wine’s territorial identity and aromatic finesse. The winemaking process involves a careful selection of the grapes and fermentation carried out in such a way as to preserve the aromatic freshness. Maceration on the skins is generally managed in a controlled manner to extract tannins that are present but not aggressive, thus promoting a balance between structure and smoothness. Ageing helps to round out the tannins whilst maintaining the fruit’s liveliness and the typical fragrance of Nebbiolo, avoiding excessive influence from the wood so as not to mask the varietal character.
Characteristics of this Piedmont wine
From an organoleptic perspective, the wine presents a bright ruby red colour, sometimes with subtle garnet hues. The bouquet is intense and refined, with distinct floral notes of rose and violet accompanied by fruity hints of cherry and red berries, which may develop into subtle spicy notes. On the palate, it is warm and smooth, with a medium-bodied structure, good acidity and a fine yet perceptible tannic texture, which contributes to the overall balance of the wine. The finish is moderate and harmonious, consistent with the bouquet.
