Marziano Abbona

Cantina Marziano Abbona is a historic family business in the Langhe, based in Dogliani, in the heart of the province of Cuneo. The family's origins date back to the early twentieth century, when Celso Abbona, a central figure in the company's history, recognized the potential of the Dogliani area well in advance and decided to promote the Dolcetto grape, then considered less noble than others. It was he who planted the famous Doriolo vineyard, today one of the company's most important crus and a symbol of Dolcetto di Dogliani. The winery itself took shape in 1970, when the second generation, represented by Marziano and Enrico Abbona, transformed the family's agricultural activity into a structured winemaking reality. In these years, the bottling and marketing of the first wines under the family name began, marking the transition from peasant production to a modern winery. A key element in the company's growth is its expansion towards the most prestigious hills of the Langhe, with the acquisition of vineyards also in the Barolo areas starting in the ’80s. This choice introduces a new production dimension, combining Dolcetto with a wider range of wines such as Barbera, Nebbiolo and Barolo, with particular attention to the historic crus of the area. Today the winery boasts a significant vineyard area spread across Dogliani, Novello, and Monforte d'Alba, with several key vineyards that express the diverse souls of the area. The company's philosophy is strongly linked to the concept of territorial identity and qualitative research: vineyard work is central, with controlled yields and great attention to the valorization of individual plots. Stylistically, Marziano Abbona is known for wines that combine tradition and oenological precision. Dogliani's Dolcetto, particularly in the “Papa Celso” version, represents the symbol of the winery, while Barolo and other Langhe labels reflect a more structured and long-term refinement approach. Today, the winery is a solid and recognized family business, pursuing a vision based on deep roots in the Dogliani and Langhe regions, with a production that combines authenticity, artisanal care, and openness to modern winemaking.
