Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico Riserva "Plenio" DOCG UMANI RONCHI
Plenio is the “Verdicchio Riserva” by Umani Ronchi. The production of this wine is strictly regulated by the so-called “disciplinare”, that impose a minimum aging of 18 months, at least 6 in the bottle. Its name comes from the Latin Plenum, that means full-bodied, complex and structured. It is appreciated for its great persistence, for its aromas and for its unique elegance. The first vintages were produced with grapes coming from Villa Bianchi. Today, the vineyard selected for the production of this wine is located near Cupramontana, where the elevation is higher and the terroir is perfect for the production of Verdicchio. 100% Verdicchio, cultivated on the hills of Castelli di Jesi. The vineyard has been planted in the 90s, it has a eastern exposition and it is located 300 meters above the sea level. The deep soil is characterized by clay and due to its features, it is perfect for the production of high-quality wines. 70-90 quintals per hectare. The manual harvest is planned between the end of September and the first decade of October, when the grapes reach the right balance between acidity and sugar. After soft pressing, the juice is cooled and subjected to static decanting. The fermentation is managed for the 60% in inox (10-15 days, 17°C). The last 40% is fermented in oak barrels of 50hl. Only the 15% of the wine makes the malolactic fermentation. The aging on lees lasts 12 months. The maturation in the bottle continues for other 6 months before the selling.
