CASCINA BRUCIATA

Cascina Bruciata is a winery situated in the heart of Barbaresco, in the Rio Sordo cru area, one of the appellation’s most renowned terroirs. Its history has very ancient roots, dating back to the late 19th century, when, in 1880, Giovanni Balbo purchased the farmstead after the building had been destroyed by fire – an event from which the estate’s name derives. For many decades, the estate maintained traditional agricultural management, with a focus that gradually shifted towards viticulture. From the 1950s onwards, Cascina Bruciata began to transform more definitively into a winery, making the most of the local vineyards and the potential of Nebbiolo, the region’s signature grape variety. The turning point in terms of quality, however, came in the early 2000s, when Carlo Balbo launched the production and direct marketing of the first labels, giving the winery a more distinct identity and linking it even more closely to the Rio Sordo cru. In 2016, the estate became part of the Abbona family, already owners of other important estates in the Langhe region, whilst retaining its autonomy and its own production identity. Today, Cascina Bruciata is a small estate of around 6–7 hectares, highly specialised in Nebbiolo and focused on the production of Barbaresco DOCG and Riserva, with an approach that combines tradition, the promotion of the cru and a focus on quality, while maintaining a direct and deep connection with the Rio Sordo area.
