The IGT denomination guarantees the Typical Geographical Indication of the Colli della Central Tuscany . The wine Flaccianello of the Pieve It is produced from 100% Sangiovese, the company's own production, selected from the finest vineyards. The vines have a planting density of approximately 6,000 vines per hectare, and the training system, as per the company's tradition, is Guyot. The winemaking process begins with spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maceration in stainless steel tanks with punch-down and temperature control for at least three weeks. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in barriques. The wine is then aged in Troncais and Allier barriques for 24 months. Among the most iconic Sangiovese labels in the Chianti region, "Flaccianello della Pieve" is a red wine of great character, produced by the Fontodi winery, one of the most excellent and important in the Central Tuscan hills, and one of the first "Super Tuscans" made exclusively from Sangiovese.
Characteristics of the red wine Flaccianello della Pieve
This sensational wine is made from a selection of the estate's finest grapes and ages in oak barrels for two years. It's a great wine, multifaceted and energetic, with powerful aromas and a complex structure, and a rhythmic and juicy progression on the palate. It's the flagship label of the Fontodi winery, Produced exclusively in years when the harvest reaches its peak quality. This red wine should be aged in the bottle for at least ten years, before enjoying its full, elegant power on the most important occasions. Its organoleptic profile is intense and luminous ruby red. The aroma is that of a complex and rich bouquet, opening on the nose with floral notes of violet, followed by hints of blackcurrant, morello cherry, and sour cherries in alcohol, finally revealing tertiary nuances of leather, tobacco, and cinchona. The flavor is warm and elegant on the palate, guided by a noble tannic texture and a very long finish, characterized by refined balsamic aftertastes. It is balanced, offering silky and warm sensations in the finish.
