Fiano di Avellino "3" DOCG DODICIETTARI
Fiano di Avellino is a fabulous wine that praises DOCG denomination. Its production is allowed only in 26 villages around Avellino. The variety has been imported by the Greeks and the first plants were planted in Lapio. It seems that the name “Vitis Apicia” or “Apina” (bee) derives from the capacity of the bunches to attract a lot of bees. “Apina” became “Afiana” and then “Fiano”. In the past it was a sweet, sparkling wine. Today, Fiano di Avellino DOCG is a dry white wine, elegant, structured and good for aging. These features are given by the surrounding lands of Irpinia, where the climate is mild in summer and cold in winter. 100% Fiano di Avellino, cultivated in the area of Montefalcone, near Avellino. The plants, 4000 stumps per hectare, are trained with Guyot method and reach a production of 65 quintals per hectare. The manual harvest is planned after the first decade of November and it is followed by soft pressing and fermentation in steel, managed at a controlled temperature of 18°C.
