The agricultural company Perusini is located in Corno di Rosazzo in the Udine area on the oriental hills of the Friulia region.
The company is inscribed to the Gotha of the Italian historical vine-dressers: the company started its activity with Mr. Giacomo Perusini who was the grandfather of the present owner, who could select and safeguard the local vines like the Picolit.
The company uses only its grapes and the productive process is carefully followed step by step since the vine. All the vineyards are located on the hill with a wonderful exposition.
Since three generations the Perusini company has the aim of studying the local vineyards to valorize the biodiversity and to persevere with the typical site flavors.
Interview with producer
How was the 2013 grape harvest?
A very hot and dry summer not easy to manage. The low profit of the vineyard gives very rich wines with a very intensive fruit.
Which are the future projects for your cellar?
Since one year we have passed to the biologic so no more pesticides, dessicates, weedkillers, chemical feritlizers and less sulphites… the nature thanks us and also our customers health.
In your opinion, how much is important the improvement of the quality of the wines you produce?
It is our keystone. Considering the qualitative aspect we have never finish improving. We try to improve year by year by experiment both in the cellar than in the country.
If you have to convince a customer to buy your wine, what would you say to him?
In our cellar you can buy territory, history, passion and an environmentally-friendly products.
Which is your favorite thing of your work, and which is the worst?
The union with nature. The relationship you can have with the land is an ancestral connection which become more strength year by year. The more the time goes by the more you are linked to your vineyards, you become the keeper and the ambassador of the territory.
On the contrary you don’t have fixed schedules or holidays.
If the Prime Minister would call you and he would ask you a wine for a very important dinner, which wine would you suggest him, and why?
I would suggest him a Ribolla Gialla. It is a local wine particularly representative and connected to our DOC. In addition, it is one of the wines that can express better the typicality of our territory, by demonstrating a very pronounced minerality and freshness flavor.
If you have to give an advice to all the cellars of your territory, what would you advice?
The BIO and the reduction of the human impact on the nature: these are the main aspects for a future agriculture of quality.
In the last years the web commerce is expanding a lot, the online wine shops are growing up more and more; how do you consider this market news?
In Italy we are a bit late compared to the rest of the world. For sure we have more possibility to buy a wine in a cellar compared to an English man, by the way we will have a digital future, the direction is already marked.
Why have you decided to commit the sale of the wines to the online wine shop Uritalianwines?
We met each other in an event in Milan, where we were both present as sponsors. The online sell is a direction to be taken if you want to be in step with the time.
Which is the wine you would suggest to the online Uritalianwines customers and why?
Surely the Ribolla for the reasons I told before. In addition, I would suggest the Sauvignon: this year is really great. It has a very rare balance between the nose and the mouth and an aromatic complexity really fine. You can’t only perceive green pepper or tomato leaf but citrons, elderberry and some balsamic aroma… It will really surprise you!
