CANTINA DI SANTADI

The Santadi Winery was founded in 1960 in the heart of Sulcis, in the southwestern part of Sardinia, thanks to the union of a group of local winemakers determined to enhance the area's winemaking heritage. From the very beginning, the winery has focused on protecting native varieties, particularly Carignano, a grape variety that has found an ideal environment in Sulcis thanks to its sandy soils, warm climate tempered by the sea, and constant winds that naturally preserve the vineyards. In the 1970s and 1980s, the winery embarked on an important qualitative growth path under the guidance of president Antonello Pilloni and with the collaboration of winemaker Giacomo Tachis, a central figure in modern Italian winemaking. This work has helped raise awareness of Sulcis wines internationally, transforming the winery into one of the symbols of contemporary Sardinian viticulture. One of the main peculiarities of the Santadi Winery is its strong connection to the area and to the free-standing sapling vineyards, many of which are very ancient and still cultivated according to traditions passed down for generations. The sandy soils of Sulcis have in fact protected the vines from phylloxera over time, allowing the survival of historic free-standing stumps that represent a unique heritage. Production focuses mainly on Carignano del Sulcis DOC, interpreted in both red and pink versions, but also includes other native Sardinian grape varieties such as Vermentino, Monica and Nuragus. The winery's wines are distinguished by balance, aromatic intensity, structure, and a marked Mediterranean influence that recalls the aromas of Sardinian scrub and the minerality of the territory.
