The Agricultural company Benincasa was founded in 1964 by Domenico Benincasa. It is located in Capro in the Bevagna small town in Umbria. Mr. Domenico started the cellar activity with the “Sagrantino” vine by using the most modern technics of cultivation and today he produces the Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG. Since 2009 the company has expanded so even the Vicastro estate in the Passignano small town on the Transimento now is property of the company Benincasa. This new territory is extended on the hills near by the lake. The company produces the Vicastro wine in white, red and rosé qualities.

Interview with producer

Which are the future projects for your cellar?

In these years we are working on the extension of the vines cultivation area in the Montefalco territory and we are trying some new experimental methods on the white wines especially the Grechetto in all its versions from the dry one, to the raisin one and the late harvested.


In your opinion, how much is important the improvement of the quality of the wines you produce?

I think it is fundamental and it is the exact reason why we work every day with enthusiasm.


If you have to convince a customer to buy your wine, what would you say to him?

I think I’ve never tried to convince anyone to buy our wine, not because it is not necessary, but because I think it should be the same wine to talk to the customer and to convince him. If it doesn’t happen it means they were not understood each other!


Which is your favorite thing of your work, and which is the worst?

I think I am a lucky person because I do the job I love which keep giving me incentive, by the way this is one of those jobs you can’t do without a great passion.


If the Prime Minister would call you and he would ask you a wine for a very important dinner, which wine would you suggest him, and why?

For sure a Sagrantino di Montefalco joined by a baked lamb.


If you have to give an advice to all the cellars of your territory, what would you advice?

Keep working like this with dedication, passion and professionalism to growth more and more our products and territory.


In the last years the web commerce is expanding a lot, the online wine shops are growing up more and more; how do you consider this market news?

I am absolutely in favor of the wine web sell I think by now is inevitable and it is for sure a more solid reality. I think it will become a selling way which will give the opportunity to taste different wines belonging to different cellars for more accessible prices by always keeping the quality.
