Tenute Gregu
The history of Tenute Gregu has its roots in the early decades of the twentieth century, when the Gregu family, originally from Barbagia, began to cultivate the vine and produce wine intended for domestic consumption and local sale. For over ninety years, the connection with the land and the Sardinian winemaking tradition remained alive, passing down from generation to generation, until the birth of the modern project of the Tenute Gregu in Gallura thanks to the initiative of the youngest members of the family. The company is located in the Calangianus countryside, at the foot of Mount Limbara, in a pristine natural setting characterized by oak, cork oak, and Mediterranean scrub forests. The vineyards extend over approximately 30 hectares at approximately 500 meters above sea level, on granite decay soils particularly rich in minerals. This particular terroir, combined with sea breezes from the northeast, gives the wines great freshness, saltiness and aromatic elegance. One of Tenute Gregu's main features is the strong promotion of Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, the only DOCG in Sardinia, which represents the company's symbolic grape variety and occupies approximately ’85% of the vineyard area. Cannonau, Carignano, Bovale Sardo, Syrah, and Merlot are also grown alongside Vermentino, with the aim of showcasing the area through authentic wines deeply rooted in Sardinian tradition. The productive philosophy of the Gregu Estates combines tradition and innovation. Sustainable and environmentally friendly practices are adopted in the vineyard, while in the cellar interventions are kept to a minimum to preserve the natural identity of the grapes and the territory. Each wine is born with the intention of expressing the character of Gallura, maintaining a balance between elegance, structure and aromatic recognizability. Another distinctive element of the company is its strong connection with the culture and nature of Sardinia. The logo of Tenute Gregu recalls the traditional Sardinian button, a symbol of prosperity and identity, while the environment surrounding the vineyards is home to golden eagles, mouflons, centuries-old olive trees, and scents of myrtle and wild lavender, creating a unique ecosystem that contributes to the charm and personality of the wines produced.
