Schiava "ROMIGBERG" DOC ALOIS LAGEDER
The denomination Lago di Caldaro is obtained with the grapes of Schiava variety, cultivated in the zone called “Oltradige” (over the river Adige), famous for the production of this wine. Still today, Alois Lageder prefers the traditional cultivation method called “pergola” for the production of its Lago di Caldaro Römigberg, due to the bad effects that global warming has on the plants. To avoid the increase of the alcoholic content of its wines, Lageder chooses a method that protect grapes with thin peel from the sun rays and guarantees freshness and lightness to his products. We play every year with the climatic condition that affects the vineyards. 100% Schiava grapes, cultivated with biological, dynamic methods, certified Demeter. The fruits come from Römigberg estate, located in the north-west side of Lago di Caldaro. The elevation of the lands swings between 250-330 meters on the sea level. They are composed by morainic sedimentations rich of clay and have a good percentage of stones and gravel. The vineyards are between 7 and 73 years old. The harvest is in the middle of September, followed immediately by spontaneous fermentation, maceration and a further fermentation managed part in steel and part in wooden barrels. The aging is developed in the same containers while a little percentage of the grapes is left on its peels for 6 months.
Features of this red wine Alois Lageder
This wine has a ruby red colour with a lot of purple shades. The scent is characterized by interesting aromas, fruits, plums, flowers and flint. The taste is quite structured, balanced, fresh, fruity, soft, delicate, dry, spicy and full of tannin. It become more refined after an aging of 2-5 years.
Recommended food pairings while tasting this Schiava
A pleasant wine suggested with starters, speck, pizza, cold cuts, steamed meats, poultry, grilled or roasted white meats, sweet cheese. It has to be served at 16 max 18°C and reaches an alcoholic strength od 12,5% Vol.
