Prio Catarratto DOC Sicilia Donnafugata
The fantastic white wine “Prio” of the renowned Donnafugata winery in Sicilian is the synonym of happiness and glee. This wine is the mono variety of the Donnafugata. This wine is one of those which represent the research and innovation that the company carries out since many years about the local variety from Sicily. The Prio wine is made of 100% Catarratto grapes which makes it intriguing and sensual since the first sip. It is honored also by the DOC certification. The cultivation takes place at south-west of Sicily in the Contessa Entellina estate located at 200-600 meters above the sea level. The territory is made of hills which are clay-loam with a sub-alkaline reaction with a pH of 7,5-7,9. The soil is reach of potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, manganese and zinc. The cultivation is made with the trellised method with wooden poles and steel cables. There is the cordon spur pruning and the density of the trees is 4.500-6.000 per hectare. The profit for hectare is 65 quintals. The 2014 is remarked by a balanced weather with mite winter and a fresh and rainy spring. July and august were not too hot with great thermic excursion between night and day which helps the production of fresh and balanced wines. The grapes harvest takes place in the first decade of September.
