Brachetto "Birbet" Massucco
This is a great red sweet wine. The Brachetto is a grape variety for red wines cultivated mostly in Piedmont in the North-west of Italy. Even if it is a local grape, it comes from the French grape “Braquet” which is a very sweet grapes but for its acidity, suitable for the everyday meals. In Italy, especially in the Asti province, this grape has spread and with the time, it achieves a sweet taste which has to be matched with desserts or drunk as meditation wine. The Brachetto “Birbet” grapes of the Massucco winery produce not structured wines, very aromatic with marked flavor of strawberries. The grapes maturation takes place the half of September. There is a short period of cold maceration for the must which could be between the 36 and the 48 hours. The peculiarity of this wine is the fermentation which is stopped when the wine is still sweet by refrigerating the wine itself. The Birbet Massucco has to be drunk when young within 2 years from the bottling to better appreciate its properties.
Characteristics of the red sweet wine Brachetto from Piedomont
The production of the Brachetto Birbet takes place in Castagnito del Roero by using 100% Brachetto grapes. The exposition of the vines is North-west. They are located at 350 meters above the sea level on a clay soil and it is cultivated in espalier and pruned with the French Guyot method. The average age of the vines is 25 years old and the production is about 100 quintals per hectare. It has a very low proof of 6% and a complex acidity of 5,3 ml per liter. It has plenty of foam very fine and it has a ruby red color with garnet red reflections. It has an intense fruity scent with a unique and remarkable bouquet and the taste is sweet, delicate, well balanced with the acidity.

It is suggested to match it with desserts. It is perfect with every pie or creams, ice-creams and chocolate. It has to be served in flute to concentrate the foam and the scent. Serve it at 8°C.
